SGSRE Launches latest issue of Journal of Arts, Science and Technology (JAST) & Announces Move to Scholastica, EBSOhost platforms March 3, 2023

The School of Graduate Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship (SGSRE), University of Technology, Jamaica has launched the latest issue of the Journal of Arts, Science and Technology (JAST). It was also announced that the articles for Volume 15, Issue 1 and future volumes will be peer-reviewed through the popular online journal management system, Scholastica. The updates were shared at an online launch on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies, Research & Entrepreneurship and Editor-in-Chief of JAST (2022 – present), Dr. Paul Ivey, in his remarks shared that, “The collection of papers in the latest issue of JAST covers a range of topics that reflects and underscores the multidisciplinary nature of the journal. JAST does not just include classical research papers, but also commentaries, book reviews, or industry perspectives.”

Pointing out that research is incomplete until it is published, Dr. Ivey noted that JAST is a vehicle for disseminating research that is undertaken by staff members and students at our University. He noted that there has been a noticeable uptick in the publications output from staff members over the last two years and disclosed that the SGSRE is working to reduce the production cycle of JAST.  He shared that 2 issues will be published per year in March and November, and that Volume 15, Issue 1 is to be published by the end of March of this year.

Dr. Ivey also explained the reason for replacing the pdf copies of the current and previous volumes of the Journal on our University’s website with links to EBSCOhost, noting that this was done because of contractual obligations with EBSCOhost for the distribution of JAST on a subscription basis. He emphasized however,  that there is no paywall for staff members or students to access JAST through the Online databases portal at the Calvin McKain Library. In addition to this portal, the journal is also available through the UTech, Jamaica website (under the Academics tab).

To access the previous volumes of JAST, one may either: 1. Visit utech.edu.jm, navigate to the Academics tab, and click on the JAST Page and then the Publications link, or 2. Via the Calvin McKain Library webpage, browse to Online Databases -> Caribbean Search -> EBSCOhost.

Dr. Ivey also extended gratitude to the following members of the JAST Management Team for their service and dedication over the years: Professor Cynthia Onyefulu – Managing Editor (2010-2019) and Editor-in-Chief  (2019 – 2022); Heather Thompson – Assistant Editor (2016-2018) and Co-Managing Editor (2018 – Present); Shaneka Campbell – Technical Support (2017-2022) and Co-Managing Editor (2022 – Present); Camille Jackson – Assistant Editor (2018 – Present); Dr. Harold McDermott – Assistant Editor (2020 – Present); Janet James – Assistant Editor (2013 – Present); and Teneisha Lee-Lawrence – Technical Support (2022-Present).
