The Push Start Workshop & Competition is a 3-day Pre-Incubator workshop organized by Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) which will be held on September 8, 15 & 22, 2022. Students from all Colleges and Faculties who are interested in Research, Entrepreneurship and Technology are welcome to participate. The aim of the workshop is to assist students with getting started on their research or business ideas with incentive prizes of tuition and business registration support.
The workshop is free of cost. The registration link will provide students with further details regarding the workshop.

As we approach a second year of this pandemic, educational institutions will either have to pivot or go out of business. Educational leadership transformation initiatives are required to drive this process of change that is definitely needed, in short bold and decisive leadership. The view in this week episode explores how important leadership is to this process, the importance of market forces as it relates to changing demand for jobs especially since the pandemic and how leadership responds in such a crisis. The move by Uber to start operations in Jamaica in June 2021, has led to a catalytic shift for local transportation, especially now in a pandemic. The introduction of this Mobile ride sharing service, is more than a an alternative transportation service, but the suggestions for a whole new way of life and how we commute, provide retail , logistic and supply chain initiatives , the apparent list of changes due to “uberization” are countless. Join us in Episode # 8 where we surgically dissect the issues relating to “uberizatiion” within our region and in particular the new wave effect here in Jamaica since the offer of the service.

With the exchange of data , protection of your data increases the value , however the reciprocal becomes true. In this week session we examined by definition the differences between IP , Copyright , Patents , trademarks and Non-disclosure agreements. We also assessed the social and economic impact of using the recommended provisions within the IP legislation , measuring the barriers to entry , and evaluated the technology talent stack available that would be expected to appreciate and evaluate the authenticity of these efforts to drive .

On the weekend May 16 2021 (4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) the School of Computing and Information Technology(SCIT) had its third session on Caribbean Technology Thought Leadership PODCAST series – dubbed Episode # 3 – Leadership in Cyber-Security . With the increase in cyber-attacks every where, the national critical infrastructure protection is at significant risk. The discussions focus on the elements of these cyber-security risks and its impact. The discussions also focus on the urgent need for counter-measures , with suitable next steps in the form of digital literacy through Cyber-education initiatives as deliberate medium to long term interventions . There is call for the Universities and private and public sector to be more involved in this mission together.

“On the weekend May 2 2021 (4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) the School of Computing and Information Technology(SCIT) launched it’s inaugural Caribbean Technology Thought Leadership PODCAST series – with Episode # 1 – Building Business Value using Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Game Development. As we actively engage the Orange economy of the creatives – the Universities like the private sector must engage in their own digital transformation to to build Next generation products and services using AI and Game Development.
The preface to the conversation was to achieve the following :
- Understanding how to create business value from AI and Game Development
- Appreciating the type of Business problems that AI and Game Development will solve
- Which industry sectors stand to be disrupted and re-imagined by the advent of AI and Game Development
- How is the Talent pipeline affected that will drive AI and Game Development
- How will we create Patents, Research, Intellectual Property be produced as outcomes.
