Academic Quality Audit Coordinator – Permanent (Level 10)

 

The Academic Quality Audit Coordinator, (OCDE) has the responsibility of providing specialist technical services to the University’s academic unit in the areas of quality assurance and quality audit.  He/she will work closely with the Accreditation Officer for the scheduling and conducting of academic audits.  He/she is also responsible for scheduling academic audits and liaising with Colleges/Faculties regarding audit evaluations.  The scope of duties includes carrying out work related to academic quality audits at UTech, Ja’s main campus as well as other sites.

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • A Masters Degree in Educational Planning, Educational Administration, Curriculum Development, Measurement and Assessment, Educational Policy or Specialist with teacher training or equivalent qualifications.
  • At least two (2) years instructional experience in a tertiary level institution with one (1) of those years managing quality assurance activities.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes, methodologies and framework systems for higher education.
  • Familiarity with international tertiary level standards and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of methods for coordinating educational research and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of academic policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Education Act.
  • Exposure to data analysis techniques.
  • Specialised training in Quality Assurance Systems in higher education, Academic Quality Audit, Evaluation Systems and computer applications for research purposes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple activities simultaneously.

VACANCY

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Office of Distance Learning for the following post:

Distance Learning and Training Officer – Level 7

 

 

The Distance Learning and Training Officer  provides training and coaching support for the development of instructional materials and methodologies in specific areas related to distance learning modalities and other flexible instructional approaches.   He/she assists the Instructional Design Specialist through a variety of direct support services including the training of academic staff and students in utilizing appropriate distance learning techniques and technologies, ensuring timely response to requests for instructional design guidance, practical demonstrations, development of distance learning materials and the implementation and monitoring of approved pedagogical standards for core distance learning projects with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.

 

He/she also liaises with internal and external stakeholders, establishing and maintaining administrative systems, gathering and organizing data, information storage and retrieval, preparing various types and forms of paper-based and electronic documents, records and reports.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  1. First Degree in Education, Administrative Management, Human Resource Development, Media and Communication or related discipline with training in and exposure to adult learning and the use of educational technology media  OR

 

  1. Equivalent qualifications which reflect specialized training in adult learning techniques, curriculum design, academic programme development and/or computer-based learning technology applications.

 

 

Specialised Knowledge

 

  1. Working knowledge of training design and instructional methodologies.

 

  1. Basic knowledge of educational technologies and specific application in distance learning environments.

 

  1. Basic knowledge or exposure to Learning Management Systems (LMS), e.g. Blackboard, WebCT, Moodle.

 

  1. Basic knowledge of the principles of adult learning theories, principles and practices and learner-centred course development techniques.

 

  1. Basic knowledge of programme development and quality assurance methodologies.

 

Specialised Training

 

  1. Teacher training or corporate training with emphasis on instructional methodologies and/or curriculum design.

Shuancie Barrett is a graduate of The University of Technology, Jamaica, with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration majoring in Accounting and a minor in Finance. She graduated in November 2015 with an upper second class degree and was the recipient of UTech’s Internal Audit award in April 2016.

Shuancie has started “Shuancie’s Tutoring Service”, an organisation that provides supplementary learning for University students, specifically geared at helping them to prepare for their assessments through class sessions, group sessions and individual sessions.

This service commenced in September 2015 and well over 300 students have used our services and benefited. We occasionally do seminars to educate the general public on various aspects of finance; our upcoming seminar “First Step in Investing” will be organised on April 8.

We hope our services will assist the University students to get value addition to their studies, boost the institution’s pass rates and graduate the best professionals possible to help build the  Jamaican economy.

A growing company would like to hire results oriented sales representatives to drive sales of their information and communication technology (ICT) solutions to the business sector.  The ICT solutions to be sold include:


  • Mobile Services
  • Cloud Services
  • Voice Services
  • Broadband Services
  • Video Entertainment Services

A background in sales/marketing is not necessary as Product and Sales Training will be provided. However the company believes that persons who have studied a technology related discipline or have technology related work experience or have a strong aptitude for information and communication technology, will perform best in the role of ICT Business Solutions Sales Representative.

The Ideal Candidates will

  • Display strong knowledge of &/ or aptitude to learn information and communication technology (ICT) solutions (*Required regardless background)
  • Have certification or work experience in a technology oriented discipline e.g. Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Engineering (*Preferred)
  • Have certification in Sales & Marketing or experience in sales in a technology based environment. However training will be provided.
  • Own/have consistent access to a reliable motor car
  • Be pleasant with strong interpersonal skills
  • Be a strong and persuasive communicator
  • Be self-motivated, driven and with a passion to exceed targets

Procurement & Office Services Department

 

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Procurement & Office Services Department for the following post:

 

Purchasing Officer – Level 7

The Purchasing Officer is responsible for the procurement of  goods, services and works in a timely and effective manner to facilitate the operations of the University.  The incumbent’s responsibilities include the selection of suppliers, negotiation of prices and administration of contracts.  He/she also performs supervisory functions to ensure efficient throughput of the staff for the Department.

Requirements:

The preferred applicant will possess the following:

  • in Management Studies, Business Administration, Accounts or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Certified Purchasing Management certification
  • Thorough knowledge of the tender and bid evaluation process and the Government of Jamaica procurement procedures and policies
  • Knowledge of import regulations, shipping and customs procedures
  • Knowledge of international procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of the principles governing the laws of contract
  • Working knowledge and interpretation of Bills of Quantities and the assessment of contractors’ claims
  • Sound knowledge of inventory and supplies management
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to delegate
  • Strong human relations, interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Sound planning and organizing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy, tact with good judgement and reasoning abilities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office
  • Three (3) years work experience in local and overseas procurement of goods and services.
