Faculty of The Built Environment

 

FULL-TIME LECTURERS

 

The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica) Caribbean School of Architecture in the Faculty of  The Built Environment seeks to identify experienced professionals as Full-Time Lecturers.

 

  1. Lecturer – Civil/Structural Engineer

 

ACDEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate should possess:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Post Graduate Degree or Certificate in Education

 

ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:         

           

The candidate must:

 

  • Specialized knowledge in Civil Engineering;

 

  • At least two  years’ practice experience in teaching and assessing students/participants in an academic environment; and must demonstrate a clear commitment to combining research with teaching and show evidence of successful educational practice as well as sustained professional engagement in their discipline.

  • Be able to make significant contribution to the University’s teaching, learning and research profile by undertaking teaching across the undergraduate and graduate courses of study in the subject areas of physics, Mathematics in architecture and Structural Design; as well as conducting research leading to publications.

 

 

 

  1. Lecturer – Architectural Studio and History Theory

 

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

 

The successful candidate should possess:

 

  • Master’s degree in Architecture or equivalent qualifications; a terminal degree would be an advantage

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Possess  strong record in architecture and design practice;

 

  • Specialize knowledge and interest in the History and Theory in Architecture;

 

  • At least three years’ practice experience teaching and assessing students/participants in an academic environment; and must demonstrate a clear commitment to combining research with teaching and show evidence of successful educational practice as well as sustained professional engagement in their discipline.

 

  • Be able to make significant contributions to the University’s teaching, learning and research profile by undertaking teaching across the undergraduate and graduate courses of study, conducting applied research leading to publications, engaging in consultancy and professional projects.

 

 

 

  1. Lecturer – Visual Arts

       

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

 

The successful candidate should possess:

 

  • Master’s degree in Fine Arts (MFA) or equivalent qualifications.

 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Strong record of exhibitions and teaching accomplishments as well as the desire to contribute to the School’s Visual Culture through teaching, learning and research activities.

 

  • At least three years’ practice experience teaching and assessing students/participants in an academic environment or evidence of Fellowship awards; and must demonstrate a clear commitment to combining research.
  • Be able to teach in the undergraduate visual arts design studio, and assist with the management of the   School’s archive and exhibitions.

 

 

 

  1. Lecturer – Architectural Studio and Technology

        

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

 

The successful candidate should possess:

 

  • Professional degree in Architecture or equivalent qualifications.

 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Strong record in design research and creative practice, public service and or community design work to teach undergraduate design studio and construction related skills and technology;

 

  • At least three years’ practice experience teaching and assessing students/participants in an academic environment; and must demonstrate a clear commitment to combining research with teaching and show evidence of successful educational practice as well as sustained professional engagement in their discipline.

 

  • Be able to  conduct applied  research leading to publications;

 

 

Successful applicants will offer teaching through a variety of means including lectures, practicals, small group tutorials, problem-based learning and e-learning initiatives.
