Communications Officer

The Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre Limited (WROC) is looking for an enthusiastic Communications Officer to provide communication support for the Strengthening Patient’s Rights in Maternal Neonatal and Infant Health (MNIH) in Jamaica project.

The project which is a collaboration between UWI and WROC aims to empower Civil Society Organisations(CSOs) to advocate for patients’ rights and to raise awareness and understanding of the public regarding patients’ rights in MNIH in Jamaica


Job Description
The Communication officer will lead the development and implementation of the Communications/Dissemination Strategy and Media Plan for the promotion of patients’ rights in maternal, neonatal and infant health and will be responsible for driving the communication, dissemination and visibility aspects of the project, including promoting project outputs and project donor requirements. The communication officer will be required to work with persons providing oversight of the project specifically the project coordinator any member of the project management team with communication expertise such as the CARIMAC and others.

The Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre Limited (WROC), a Non-Governmental Organization, seeks a dynamic individual to assume responsibilities for

  • the coordination of a 6 month project focused on initiatives towards building working as a political constituency. The project is being implemented with and on behalf of the 51% Coalition It is funded by UN Women.


The duties for the Administrator/ Co-ordinator include:

  1. Communication with and updating the members of the 51% Coalition about the project.
  2. Preparing the TORs and issuing of service contracts for specific activities.
  3. Monitoring the implementation of tasks/deliverables for persons working on the project.
  4. Communicating with Partners – eg. UN Women.
  5. Oversight of financial accounting on the project.
  6. Authorising the making of payments as approved by budget in coordination with the Project Coordinating Committee.
  7. Preparing reports for donors and partners and servicing monthly meetings of the Project Coordinating Committee.
  8. Ensuring timely implementation of the project while ensuring that the project objectives are maintained.
  9. Ensuring adequate plant and personnel for project implementation.
  10. Mobilising voluntary support of members of 51% Coalition for activities under the project,

including media and communications.

Minimum Qualifications

First degree in Social Sciences, or Communication

Working knowledge of gender issues and women’s rights will be an asset.
