Lecturer in Public Health Biostatistics

 

The University of Technology, Jamaica School of Public Health and Health Technology seeks to identify an experienced professional to fill the full-time position of Lecturer in Public Health Biostatistics.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Public Health Biostatistics combines mathematics, statistics, sciences in general and clinical medicine in particular to provide solutions to public health problems in all their dimensions and manifestations. A combined background in the applied sciences and clinical medicine would produce the best practice applicant for the post of Biostatistician in Public Health.

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

Successful candidates should be a Medical Doctor with Clinical experience.

THE MAIN RESPONISBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Introduce and review basic statistical concepts
  • Teach students how to use statistical computer software such as SPSS and other MS Windows application so that they can summarize statistical results in a format suitable for publication (graphs, measures of central tendency and dispersion)
  • Instruct students in descriptive studies, experimental design, simple regression and correlation, non-parametric tests, analysis of variance, etc.
  • Participate in examining the performance of assigned research activities by
    • Ensuring the development and supervision of timelines for statistical and data management activities in agreement with requirements for assigned research activities
    • Assisting with writing the statistical analysis plans for assigned projects
    • Supervising the progress of data management plans for assigned projects
    • Examining the research database
  • Act as focal point of academic leadership in the School of Public Health and Health Technology
    • Examine research data base through continuing personal research
    • Identify and introduce curriculum improvements at both the undergraduate and post graduate levels
    • Enhance the bio statistical competences of Public Health Professionals in general
    • Promote best practices, thereby advancing the quality of the Public Health professionals
    • From time to time, proposing organizational improvements in the School to develop its Biostatistics institutional capacity

 

 

REMUNERATION

Compensation will be in accordance with the University’s compensation policies and guidelines.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The initial appointment will be for three (3) years in the first instance and subject to renewal by mutual agreement.
