‘Champs’ Gets New Meet Director

The Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has appointed a new meet director for the annual Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships.

When the five-day 2018 meet gets under way on March 20, former inter-collegiate president, Anthony Davis, will be the man charged with ensuring the smooth running of the meet. He replaces Glen Mills, who has been meet director since 1985. (more…)

The University of Technology, Jamaica through its College of Health Sciences (COHS) hosted the 3rd Jamaican Medical Cannabis Integration Symposium (JAMECANN 2018) from July 5 to 6, 2018 at the Papine Campus under the theme, “Merging Science, Spirit and Business.” 

The two-day symposium showcased advances that have been made in the Jamaican and international medical cannabis sector.  It also provided opportunities for building research networks.  The symposium comprised eight scientific sessions with themes including medical Cannabis product innovation, standardization through Cannabis testing and the business of Cannabis.

Speakers at the opening ceremony included The Honourable Audley Shaw, CD, MP, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Agriculture and Fisheries, The Hon. Alando Terrelonge, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Gender Affairs, Entertainment and Sport, Dr. Janet Campbell-Shelly, Dean, COHS, Mr. Lincoln Allen, CEO, Cannabis Licensing Authority, Dr. Ellen Campbell-Grizzle, Associate Professor, COHS and Symposium Convener and keynote speaker Dr. Cliff Riley, Executive Director, Scientific Research Council (SRC). Dr. Janice Lindsay

The Advancement Division and the entire University of Technology, Jamaica family are deeply saddened at the passing of Dr Janice Lindsay, former Director of Arts and Culture.  Dr. Lindsay died on Friday, July 6, 2018 following a period of illness.

Dr. Lindsay was appointed Director of Arts and Culture, UTech, Jamaica in May 2012.  Prior to that she served the University at the Centre for the Arts as a Special Projects Coordinator (April 2011) and as Cultural Officer (May 2011 – May 2012).  On the request of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, she was seconded to act in the post of Principal Director, Culture and Creative Industries Policy Division for a period of six months from February to July 2015.  She was later permanently appointed in that post since August 2015.  She also served the Ministry as Acting Permanent Secretary in 2017. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

 

The successful candidate should possess a BSc. in Medical Technology or professional qualification in Medical Technology and at least a Masters’ Degree in Medical Microbiology . Training in Education would be an asset.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

The candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years’ clinical experience and be competent to teach the practices and processes associated with medical technology, a commitment to combining research with teaching, and show evidence of successful educational practice as well as sustained professional engagement in their disciplines.

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Office of Teaching & Learning for the following post:

 

Curriculum Specialist – Level 10

(Permanent)

 

The Curriculum Specialist has responsibility for providing specialist technical assistance to the University’s academic units in the areas of course of study and module design and development.  She/he is also responsible for assisting with training academic staff in specific areas related to teaching and learning.  Additional duties include providing assistance to the Associate Vice President – Teaching & Learning, in areas related to curriculum-related research.  The scope of duties includes the review and monitoring of courses of study offered at the main, and satellite campuses of the University.

 

Requirements:

The preferred applicant should possess

 

  • A Doctoral degree in Curriculum Design or Educational Planning or Educational Administration or Educational Measurement and Assessment, or equivalent qualifications;
  • Five (5) years experience in designing curricula using outcomes-based approaches at a higher education institution;
  • Knowledge of course of study development systems for outcomes-based curriculum design in higher education;
  • Knowledge of learner-centred/student-centred teaching methodologies;
  • Knowledge of designing curricula for online delivery;
  • Knowledge of testing and assessment methodologies;

Now on University Website

 

The University of Technology, Jamaica Press now has a presence on the University website at https://www.utech.edu.jm/about-utech. Details of how to submit Book Proposals and Manuscripts are posted on the website.

 

The Press was launched in February as a unit under the Office of the President and  has been established to promote research and publications primarily among members of the University Community, providing an avenue for lecturers and other members of staff to publish the results of their research, and to produce works that will bring together established as well as new knowledge. The Press will be development-oriented, both in respect of the development of staff members, and in respect of its contribution to broad issues of development in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
