The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica) seeks to identify an experienced professional to fill the following post in the Office of the Deputy President:

 

SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT (LEVEL 10)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Special Assistant to the Deputy President provides high quality support to the Deputy President and the senior management team comprising Vice Presidents, Deans, Associate Vice Presidents and the University Librarian in areas relating to institutional building; strategic planning; academic and administrative policy and procedures.

 

This position is a critical component of the Academic Affairs Division as the incumbent performs coordinating responsibilities for important projects within the Academic Affairs Division including coordinating and monitoring budget for the Division.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION ARE:

  1. Coordinate and follow up on academic matters designated by the Deputy President, specifically in relation to Prior Learning Assessment, Cooperative Education, Continuing Education, Distance Learning, Research and Graduate Studies.
  2. Arrange and prepare data and material for meetings to be attended by the Deputy President and prepare various types of reports and correspondence on a variety of academic matters for submission to the requisite authorities of the University.
  3. Serve on designated committees, task forces and ad hoc working groups and represent the Deputy President, if required.
  4. Review and coordinate the development of academic regulation and policies and prepare relevant documentation in support of policy review and revision.
  5. Generate research and provide advice to the Deputy President on policy issues.
  6. Coordinate inputs to the divisional budget through consultation with the head of the Division/Faculty and their reportees.

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate should possess the following: A Master’s Degree in Public Administration or Higher Education Management or equivalent qualifications.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

At least five (5) years’ experience in a senior management/administrative capacity in a higher education setting; sound knowledge of the University of Technology, Jamaica Act (l999); specific knowledge of the structure and operations of the academic affairs division; working knowledge of higher education administration; knowledge of academic policies, regulations and procedures of the university; knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques and tools; knowledge of research methodologies and techniques; and excellent presentation, communication and human relations skills.
