For Vocational Skills Summer Workshop

The Community Service and Development Department, UTech, Jamaica has partnered with The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) to conduct a series of Youth Vocational Skills Training Workshops over the period June 20th – July 29th 2016. These camps will target youth ages 16-24 from selected inner city communities in Kingston such as Majesty Gardens, Denham Town, Rose Town, Maxfield Park, Rema and Greenwich Town.  Twenty Six (26) youth were selected based on their interest in the vocational areas offered. The workshops will include among other areas, skills training, behaviour modification, literacy and numeracy.

The University of Technology Jamaica, has been chosen to provide instructions in the areas of Web Page and Fashion Design. As such, the technical component of the workshops will be implemented by representatives of the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) and the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies (FELS). Students will be exposed to the fundamentals in the stated areas as well as interface with agencies and resource personnel who can provide support in mentorship, violence prevention, anger management, deportment, and conflict resolution.

A graduation exercise will be conducted on July 29, 2016 to highlight their achievement.
