Dear Ms. Messam:

The Department of Community Service and Development has taken up the task of assisting children from neighboring communities with classes on the university campus. This outreach effort is called ‘Saturday University’ Outreach Programme. It is geared towards helping children from grades 3-11 with assignments and areas they may have difficulties with understanding.   These classes are coordinated by the Department of Community Service and Development and are delivered by UTech, Jamaica students. We would like you to assist us in identifying speakers for the empowerment sessions. This is usually done at approximately 1.30 pm and is geared towards motivating the students to optimize their potential.

The main goals of this outreach programme are as follows:

  • Increase in vocational literacy and numeracy levels among the vulnerable and ‘at risk’ youth
  • Increase in the CSEC  Mathematics and English passes GSAT and GNAT performance
  • Increase in the educational, employment and productivity levels, as well as improvement in the social conditions
  • Promoting life skills and character development through motivational sessions.

The ‘Saturday University’ Outreach Programme is scheduled to be held from January 30, 2016 to April 23, 2016. This programme hopes to attract at least one hundred and twenty (120) children weekly over the eight (8) week period.

Please do not hesitate to contact us by phone at 839-7860 or email paulton.gordon@utech.edu.jm.

Sincerely yours,

Paulton Gordon (Mr.)

Director, Community Service and Development
