Office of Distance Learning (Academic Affairs Division)

VACANCY

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Office of Distance Learning for the following post:

 eLearning Technologist (Permanent) – Level 7

 

The eLearning Technologist provides technical-administrative support within the Office of Distance Learning to facilitate the sustained growth and development of distance learning programmes and services.

He/She assists primarily the Educational Technology Specialist by providing  a  range of direct support services including preparation and production of technology resources for effective design and delivery of distance learning courses of study/modules, monitoring the availability, use and maintenance of distance learning technology equipment & other resources, assisting with technical troubleshooting and referral of technology-related problems, ensuring timely response to requests for technical guidance, demonstrations and training, assisting with implementation of technical aspects of core distance learning projects with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.

 

Minimum Qualifications

First Degree in Computer Studies with some training in or exposure to administrative management techniques and educational principles.

OR

First Degree in Education or Administrative Information Systems Management with significant training in or exposure to computer technology applications and other electronic delivery media including satellite and broadcast television.

OR

equivalent qualifications.

Specialised Knowledge

  1. Working knowledge of current educational technology trends, emerging tools and techniques for teaching-learning interactions, material production and delivery in distance learning environments.
  2. Working knowledge of multimedia and electronic graphic design techniques including animation, simulations and storyboarding.
  3. Working knowledge of digital recording and reproduction including video production, digital photography and publishing.

 

  1. Basic knowledge of alternative media delivery systems, such as satellite, broadband, cable or telephone networks, broadcast television and social networking tools.
  2. Working knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, technology tools and other supporting equipment.
  3. Working knowledge of UTech – DL policy, LMS Governance policy and other policies relating to the academic development and delivery of distance learning programmes.
  4. Working Knowledge of  UTech – DL integrated support systems and the related roles/ responsibilities for effective delivery of distance learning programmes.

 

Specialised Training

  1. Training in Customer Service and/or Technology Support Service Agreements
  1. Basic Scripting, and Programming Technologies  (e.g. MS SQL, PHP, Java Script, Action Script)
  1. Distance Learning Technologies including Online Course Management Systems or Learning Management Systems and other modalities such as satellite delivery, video conferencing and  broadcasting television.

Experience Required

A minimum of two (2) years experience in a related job involving the provision of multimedia training and technical support to non-technical end-users.
