Dastardly Act Says Thwaites
November 5, 2015
Minister of Education Ronald Thwaites has expressed sadness at the tragic and sudden death of University of Technology(UTech) student Shanique Walters.
The first-year Medical Technology student was fatally shot by robbers on Wednesday night while walking home with another female student in Hope Pastures, St Andrew.
Today (Thursday)Minister Thwaites contacted UTech Acting President Professor Colin Gyles to convey the Ministry’s deepest sympathies to Ms Walters’ colleagues and the university family. He welcomed the management’s decision to make grief counselling available to students who need it.
Minister Thwaites has also extended condolences to Ms Walters’ relatives.
The Education Minister is calling on the Jamaica Constabulary Force to swiftly bring the perpetrators of this “dastardly act” to justice and to increase security surveillance of the adjoining residential areas that students of UTech and the University of the West indies Mona have to traverse.
