on Change in Abbreviated Name of the University

(UTech, Jamaica or UTech, Ja.)

The University community is being advised that effective immediately the abbreviated name of the University of Technology, Jamaica will now be ‘UTech, Jamaica’ or ‘UTech, Ja.’  The name change was approved under the revised Use of Emblem and Graphic Standards Policy for the University at the Council meeting held on December 15, 2014.

The Council notes that the decision to now use the abbreviation, ‘UTech, Jamaica’ or ‘UTech, Ja.’ emanated from a need to make the institution more identifiable nationally and globally among the many Universities of Technology that currently exist.  Therefore in accordance with the new guidelines, “when using the name of the institution, steps must be taken to ensure that reference is made to ‘University of Technology, Jamaica’ in full.  Subsequent references may be referenced as ‘UTech, Jamaica’ or ‘UTech, Ja.’

For further information and clarification on the use of the UTech, Jamaica/UTech, Ja. Insignia/Emblems please refer to revised Use of Emblem and Graphics Standards Policy attached.
