Our masterful M C — George Davis, Alumnus and Media Personality at Nationwide 90, thoroughly enjoying introducing and interviewing the 3 of the 5 remaining locally-based members of the CAST Pioneers. CAST Pioneers refers to the alumni group of the first graduating class of our University of 1961. From left to right are Noel Gray, Keith Lumsden and Cowell Lyn. The group was later joined by colleague Locksley Comrie. Missing was Carl Lawrence who was not able to attend. Guests were treated to several humourous and thought provoking stories about life at CAST in the 1950s-60s. One fond memory of the CAST Pioneers was of course…Mango trees! You would have had to be there to hear their answers to George’s questions such as “Tell me, in 1961, how was parking on campus?” or “What computers were you using in 1961?”

On Wednesday,  February 26th, 2014, the University of Technology, Jamaica hosted the CAST-UTech Alumni Social 2014 at the popular entertainment venue, Waterfalls Ltd.  Guests were warmly welcomed by Mr. Hector Wheeler, AVP, Advancment with responsibility for Alumni Relations and Prof. the Hon. Errol Morrison, President. Prof. Morrison expressed great pleasure at the high level of attendance, and the obvious enthusiasm of alumni who were present. He shared an overview of the strategic direction and major achievements of the University;  and exhorted Alumni to be intentional about speaking well of the University and expressing their positive views through the print, visual and audio media available.

Not everyone was able to attend, and many called in and emailed their apologies due to last minute diversions and emergencies. Some even came after it was finished, caught us packing up and sat at the bar and “bought a drink” in solidarity.  We hope that you will be able to spot classmates as you review the lists; and we look forward to other occasions through which we can connect alumni-to-alumni.

Do remember to share your feedback on how you experienced the CAST-UTech Alumni Social 2014, by leaving a comment on this blog post!

 Let’s keep in touch!
